I started building loft conversions in 1991 and formed Alternative Attics in 2000 to fulfil the need for a more ‘hands on’ conversion company.
The optimisation of space is a specialist skill and requires specific structural knowledge and clever thinking to truly open up tricky areas and create the best use of space.

With 20 years experience under our tool belt, we are proud of the extra space we have created for over a thousand home owners in the Surrey, South London and Sussex areas.
Over 75% of all our work comes from referrals and personal recommendations; we have done 15 conversions in just one road.
Alternative Attics is based in Abinger Common in the Surrey Hills and is a family run business. All work is quoted for and project managed by David Adams, this means you have a constant point of contact throughout the whole process and a consistency of care.
All of our work is guaranteed for 10 years, we also have full public liability insurance to five million pounds. We’re proud to put our name to our work and we never use sales teams or sell conversions on to other companies. Each Alternative Attics conversion is completed by one dedicated team of skilled workmen who are selected for their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm. We are overly aware that we are working in your home during the construction and pride ourselves on being efficient, good humoured and handy with a vacuum cleaner at the end of the day.
The Team
During the course of the conversion, we use skilled trades people such as plasterers, tilers, plumbers and electricians - all of whom are specialists in their chosen fields. We have worked with these individuals for many years, so we know and trust them and the quality of their work.
